Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French bronze sculptures from this era frequently depict human figures, sporting pursuits, or allegorical themes, crafted with strong narrative detail and naturalistic proportions. Produced during the Belle Epoque period, these works reflect both classical academic training and contemporary interest in athletic and dramatic subjects.

These sculptures were generally cast in solid or hollow bronze using either the lost-wax (cire perdue) or sand-casting method. After casting, artisans hand-chased the metal surfaces to refine fine details before applying chemical patinas to achieve specific dark brown, olive, or reddish tones.

Authentic period bronzes exhibit precise cold-tooling, clean crisp detail around features like hands and drapery, and natural wear patterns on raised surfaces. They typically feature integral cast bases with period-appropriate foundry marks, signatures, or title plaques rather than modern screw attachments.

A pair of dark bronze figures provides visual balance and narrative depth when placed symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, credenza, or flanking a central mirror on a sideboard. The deep metallic tones complement both traditional dark wood paneling and contemporary neutral palettes.

Dust the bronze gently with a soft microfibre cloth or natural bristle brush to clear crevices. Avoid chemical cleaners, abrasives, or water, as these damage the delicate historic patina; apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax annually to protect the surface from oxidisation.
