Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, also known as a swing mirror or dressing glass, is a freestanding mirror mounted between two upright posts that allow the mirror frame to pivot horizontally. Popular throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, these pieces were designed to sit on top of dressing tables or chests of drawers to assist with personal grooming.

19th-century swing mirrors were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, frequently accented with flame mahogany veneers across the base. The pivoting mechanism relied on wooden or brass side pins, while silvered glass formed the reflective plate.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature hand-carved details, traditional joinery on the wooden base, and original brass thumb screws or swivel fittings. The rear of the frame usually shows an aged solid wooden backboard, and the glass mirror plate may display characteristic minor foxing or oxidisation.

Place the swing mirror atop a minimalist hallway console table, modern dressing chest, or deep window sill to create a balanced focal point. Pairing dark timber tones with neutral wall palettes and contemporary ceramics creates a refined contrast between historical craftsmanship and current design.

Dust the mahogany frame regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly to nourish the timber polish. Clean the glass plate using a dry or slightly damp cloth, taking care not to allow liquid to seep behind the wooden border where it could degrade the mirror backing.
