Description

Beautiful, quality antique Victorian period mahogany dressing table mirror.

Condition: Excellent antique condition. All aspects are sound and secure. The mirror adjusts to any position and stays in place. There are some cracks to the base, as is typical, characterful and attractive. The mirror glass is lightly and evenly foxed. It is reflective but not clear enough for detail (ie. applying makeup). It has been cleaned and the wood has a nourished appearance.

A Victorian toilet mirror, also known as a dressing table mirror, is a free-standing tabletop mirror mounted on vertical supports that allow the glass frame to tilt. These pieces were standard bedroom accessories throughout the nineteenth century for grooming and dressing.

These mirrors were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, often incorporating rich veneers. The reflective panes were constructed using silvered glass, secured with brass swivel fittings and pins.
