We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Marble-topped buffets and commodes became prominent in French residential architecture and dining rooms during the 18th and 19th centuries, prized for their combination of practical utility and refined aesthetic value.

Authentic pieces typically feature solid timber frames such as walnut, oak, or fruitwood, joined using traditional mortise and tenon construction, and are topped with thick slabs of polished natural marble.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut joints, original hardware like brass escutcheons, timber patina, and the natural wear patterns consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

Pairing the natural warmth of timber and the cool texture of marble with modern lighting and minimalist surrounding decor creates a balanced focal point in contemporary living spaces.

Protect the timber with microcrystalline wax and clean the marble surface using pH-neutral soap and water, avoiding acidic substances that can etch the polished stone.
