Antique Derby Figurines of Young Gardeners, C.1784-1825.

A pair of antique Derby boy and girl porcelain figurines, end of 18th century, showing a girl with basket of flowers and a boy with his hat full of fruits. Both have been hand painted in enamel and decorated in finery with gilt highlights. These figurines have been made with exceptional care; their natural postures, facial expressions and beautiful clothes all speak of the highest level of master attention.

The figures are dressed in traditional clothes, painted in vibrant colors and decorated with flowers patterns. The pieces are very finely hand-painted with excellent detailing, including the floral patterns and clear facial details. Predominant colors are vibrant shades of dark blue, yellow, green and pink. The figures sitting on an oval florally decorated and scroll moulded base with some greenery and applied flowers. All details of the figurines are made very realistically with the highest manufacturing technique. On base painted factory crown mark in red which confirms the stated date of manufacture of these rare Derby figurines. The Royal Crown Derby Porcelain company is the oldest remaining English porcelain manufacturer, based in Derby, England. The company, particularly known for its high-quality porcelain figurines, has produced tableware and ornamental items since approximately 1750. The production of porcelain in Derby actually predates the work by Andrew Planche and William Duesbury in 1756, which joined Andrew Planche and John Heath in creating the Nottingham Road factory, later known as Royal Crown Derby and it quickly became one of the leading porcelain manufacturers in England. The early Derby porcelain featured finely detailed, brightly colored painted scenes, often with ornate gilding. Some of the most popular early designs included figurines, tableware, and vases, which were often adorned with floral motifs, landscapes, and other decorative elements.
