Antique Tekke Turkmen Dowry Rug, Traditional Tekke Gul Design, Circa 1900.

Description

Size: 3ft 11in x 3ft 4in (120 x 102cm).

Antique Tekke Turkmen dowry rug of fine weave and small size.

Circa 1900.

These rugs are considered to be ‘dowry’ weavings used by the Turkmen bride on her wedding day.

This example has 4 rows of 6 Tekke guls, on a soft orange /red ground. There are cochineal highlights through out the rug, the border is of the traditional Tekke 'Flag' design or 'Tekbent' design as it is known to the Turkmen. The rug retails its original large elem panels at both ends.

The rug is in fair condition with some scattered wear and medium / low pile. (This is reflected in the price).
