Condition / Servicing Note:

Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III longcase clock is a tall, floor-standing pendulum clock produced during the reign of King George III, spanning from 1760 to 1820. These timepieces are characterised by mahogany cases, fine marquetry or line inlay, and either painted or engraved brass dials driven by eight-day movements.

Georgian longcase clocks were primarily constructed using imported Cuban or flame mahogany veneers laid over secondary timbers such as oak or pine. The internal mechanical movements were crafted from solid brass and steel, accompanied by cast iron driving weights.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, period-correct secondary wood linings, and signs of hand-tooling on the movement plates. Dials from this period often display painted architectural or nautical scenes in the arch, paired with cast spandrels and period maker signatures.

A longcase clock serves as a focal architectural element when placed in an entryway, hallway, or drawing room alcove. Pairing dark mahogany timber with modern neutral paint palettes or contemporary upholstery creates a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Keep the timber case away from direct sunlight, radiators, and damp conditions to prevent wood movement and veneer lifting. The mechanical movement requires professional lubrication every three to five years and must be positioned on a perfectly level surface.
