Condition / Servicing Note:

Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III longcase clock is a tall, floor-standing, weight-driven clock produced during the reign of King George III (17601820). These clocks typically feature mahogany casework, architectural pediments, and either brass or hand-painted dials depicting floral or allegorical scenes.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised dense flame mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcasses, accented with boxwood or satinwood stringing. The clock movements feature brass plates and gears driven by cast iron weights, housed behind glass-fronted hoods.

Authentic pieces feature cast iron weights suspended by gut or cord, two winding keyholes on the dial face, and movement plates secured with hand-cut brass latches. The casework often displays period-specific details such as swan-neck pediments, brass finials, and hand-painted arch decorations.

A longcase clock serves as a structural focal point when positioned in an entrance hallway, stair landing, or formal study. Pairing dark mahogany woodwork with neutral paint tones allows the architectural silhouette and inlaid detailing to stand out.

The wooden case requires occasional application of natural beeswax to preserve the patina and prevent drying. The mechanical movement should be wound weekly using the correct key size and serviced by a professional horologist every five to seven years.
