We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Georgian furniture, spanning the reigns of the first four Georges, is characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and a transition from heavy walnut to lighter imported timbers such as mahogany.

Washstands from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were primarily constructed from durable hardwoods like mahogany, oak, and satinwood, often featuring secondary woods such as pine or oak for internal framing.

Authenticity is determined by examining traditional joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, period-appropriate hardware, and natural oxidisation consistent with age.

An antique washstand can be repurposed as a functional accent piece in a bathroom or hallway, styled with modern ceramics, botanical elements, or folded textiles to create a contrast between old and new.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber bleaching, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the polished surface.
