Mark Seabrook Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
...it has a pegged top with "double" thumbnail moulding...always an early feature, running around the outside edge....then underneath are finely double moulded seat rails, all supported by four bold columnar legs, which are united by large sturdy stretchers....it has been branded by the original owner, with his initials AS....excellent colour and in very good condition for its age....small loss to feet, but does not affect the charm and desirability of this beautiful early piece of English Vernacular furniture...wonderful...!
