Park Lodge Antiques has dated this Antique Dog Oil Painting to the 1910s.
Many of Stretton’s works are illustrated in William Secord’s book on ‘Dog Painting’, he is also listed in Paviere and in Christopher Wood’s book on ‘Victorian Painters’.

The work below is almost the carbon copy of a work that passed through Bonhams, New York 12/2/2006 for £14,517.
Stretton’s work is characterised by a bold brushstroke with tremendous sympathy for his subject matter. He had an innate ability to capture a moment and the very essence of his subject. He was a very accomplished artist and his dog paintings have a timeless appeal.
