Antique Khamseh Tribal Arab Rug. 179cm X 152cm.

Description

South west persia,last quarter 19th century.

Arab tribe of the khamseh confederacy.

To the central two diamond medallions are two pairs of zoomorphic back to back geometric peacocks woven in this very unusual form which I haven't encountered on any other khamseh weaving.

Down each side within the dark brown/black field colour are eight boldly designed peacocks woven in beautiful green and electric blue colours with superb fan tails and geometric crests to their heads along with rosettes,combs,tribal devices and of course the pecking chickens !

The overall palette of this rug is very subtle and earthy with light greens,yellow and blues.

Hand washed and de-dusted last images.

All ends and sides secure. Low even pile. Small repair to bottom end edge left side,not much noticeable.

Nice scarcity of the overall design which is what makes this rug such a treat to own.

5 foot 10 inches by 4 foot 11 inches. 179cm X 152cm. Being not far off square. All woollen construction.
