Cotswold Oriental Rugs has dated this Caucasian Verneh Flatweave Rug to the 1890s.
Antique brocaded flatweave rug, south west Caucasus.
Circa 1890.
The border design is small squares each filled with a fine multi coloured design.

It is suggested that this group of flat weaves were woven in Borchaliu or possibly in the Shemkir region near the village of Daskesan, these are historically Armenian villages. A very closely related example is published as plate 86, in Flat-woven Rugs & Textiles from the Caucasus, by Robert H Nooter.

The flatweave is in original 'as found' condition with some uneven wear and slight losses to the sides, (this is reflected in the price). Both ends retain the original long tassels.
The flatweave is suitable for light domestic use and has been hand washed.
