Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French crystal regulator is a mantel clock originating in the late 19th century, characterised by four bevelled glass panels set into a metal frame to allow clear visibility of the internal pendulum movement.

These timepieces are constructed using cast brass or bronze cases with mercury gilding or lacquer finishes, bevelled glass plates, and porcelain or enamel dial plates.

Authentic period examples feature stamped maker marks on the back plate of the movement, numbered matching components, thick bevelled glass panels, and hand-chased metal casing details.

Display the clock on a marble fireplace mantelpiece, a dark wood sideboard, or a central library shelf to contrast polished metal against minimalist or traditional architectural backdrops.

Clean glass panels with a lint-free cloth and mild glass cleaner applied directly to the cloth rather than the frame. Dust metal surfaces with a dry soft brush and avoid chemical polishes that strip gilding.
