For Sale by Arundel Clocks
Description

Hi

I have for sale the most beautiful fully restored solid brass French oval crystal regulator mantel clock in great original condition with an eight day movement striking on a bell and made in Paris by Samuel Martis 1880.

The Case

The case is in solid brass the clock is very heavy standing 26cm high x 18cm wide with a depth of 16cm it is in very good original condition and has been very well looked after over the years, with thick bevelled convex glass on all four sides all in original condition.

The Dial

The dial is gilded with black Arabic numerals and has the slow and fast adjuster above numeral twelve.

The Movement

The movement is an eight day time and strike striking the hours and halves on a gong a real quality movement, which still retains the original key and pendulum.

The movement keeps spot on time over the eight days; she was serviced and oiled around two months ago but fully restored with new springs just eight months ago so looking great in the case.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French crystal regulator is a style of table or mantel clock created during the late nineteenth century, characterised by glass panels set within a cast brass or bronze frame that allow full visibility of the mechanical clockwork inside.

These timepieces are constructed using gilt brass or ormolu frames, thick bevelled glass panels, enamel dials, and mercury-compensated pendulums designed to maintain accurate timekeeping despite temperature fluctuations.

Authentic pieces feature heavy bevelled glass, cast brass framing with precise chasing, double-vial mercury pendulums, and French movement maker stamps on the back plate, such as Samuel Marti or Japy Freres.

Place the clock as a focal decorative object on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or formal office desk to introduce classical brass tones and historical interest into modern or traditional interiors.

Dust the brass and glass exterior gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth without harsh chemical polishes, and have the mechanical movement cleaned and lubricated by a professional horologist every four to five years.
