Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian serpentine chests of drawers are defined by their subtle S-shaped undulating front profile, popularised in Britain during the mid-to-late 18th century. They typically feature high-grade mahogany, flame veneers, dovetailed drawer construction, and ornate cast brass hardware.

Primary timbers included solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, often accented with flame mahogany veneers on drawer fronts. Secondary timbers used for internal drawer linings and back panels commonly included oak, pine, or deal, complemented by cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, uneven hand-sawn secondary timber marks, and natural wood shrinkage consistent with age. Look for genuine dark oxidisation around original brass fittings and cast iron lock casings inside the drawers.

A dark mahogany serpentine chest provides architectural anchor points when set against modern neutral walls or bold contemporary artwork. Modern table lamps, ceramics, or abstract glass objects placed on top balance the traditional woodwork with contemporary lines.

Maintain historical mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, or colour fading.
