Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III serpentine chest is an 18th-century storage piece distinguished by a convex centre and concave sides along the front facade. Typically crafted from solid or veneered mahogany, these pieces feature graduated drawers, brass hardware, and bracket feet reflective of late Georgian design.

Georgian chests of drawers primarily used high-density Cuban or West Indian mahogany for visible exterior surfaces. Secondary timbers for drawer linings and internal framing commonly included oak, pine, or deal, while brass was used for handles, backplates, and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints that are unevenly spaced, hand-sawn secondary timber linings, and natural shrinkage cracks along side panels. Look for cast brass hardware with hand-cut threads and square nuts, alongside authentic wear patterns around handles and keyholes.

A mahogany serpentine chest functions well as a focal point in an entryway, bedroom, or living room space. Positioning contemporary artwork or a minimalist mirror above the wooden top creates a balanced juxtaposition between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Maintain mahogany by applying a high-grade natural beeswax polish once or twice a year using a microfibre cloth, buffing along the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, and finish fading.
