The fineness and detail in this outstanding rug is the work of a master-weaver bearing in mind that it was probably woven on a primitive,horizontal loom.

The kashkuli tribe of the qashqai confederation are considered to have produced the finest work and this rug shown here certainly proves that point.

The two outer central lozenges contain the tribal emblem of the qashqai weavers.

The colours are outstanding as is the tribal elements and motifs. There are many detailed images of it.

Rarely does one come across such a beauty and early in date.

This rug is comparable to those illustrated in a few tribal rug publications.

Low even pile. Ends and sides secured.

Size is 7 foot 10 inches by 4 foot 3 inches. 239cm X 130cm. Size excludes fringes both ends. All woollen construction.

Many more tribal qashqai's,khamseh's and afshars stocked.

Appointments can be made to show more expensive rugs in situ before commitment to buy.

Qashqai Kashkuli rugs are woven by the Kashkuli subtribe of the nomadic Qashqai confederation in southwestern Iran. They are characterised by fine hand-spun wool, high knot density, and structured geometric diamond medallions.

Authentic 19th-century tribal rugs utilise hand-spun sheep wool for both the pile and the warp and weft foundation. Dyes were extracted from natural plant and insect sources, such as madder root for red tones and indigo for blue hues.
