Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Opalescent glass gained immense popularity during the 1920s and 1930s Art Deco movement, particularly in France. Master glassmakers utilised chemical compounds in the glass batch to create an ethereal light-diffusing effect that complimented the eras focus on modern form and sculpted relief.

Pieces were produced by pressing molten glass containing specific fluorides or phosphates into metallic moulds. Upon controlled cooling, light diffraction created milky translucent highlights, particularly on the raised surfaces of high-relief designs.

Authentic period pieces typically feature hand-cut, etched, or moulded signatures such as R. LALIQUE FRANCE. Collectors also examine the quality of the hand-finishing, crispness of the moulded detail, and distinct opalescent reaction under light.

Positioning the vase near natural light sources or on illuminated shelving highlights the internal glow and fiery blue undertones. Placing it against darker background surfaces maximizes the contrast of the frosted high-relief detailing.

Wash gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding abrasive pads or sudden temperature changes. Dry immediately with a soft microfibre cloth to prevent water spots and preserve the delicate frosted finish.
