Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian sewing box work table is a specialised 19th-century piece of furniture designed to store needlework supplies and provide a surface for handcrafts. These tables typically feature a hinged lid opening to a compartmentalised interior, often supported on a pedestal column with carved tripod or quadruped legs.

Victorian work tables were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, frequently featuring flame mahogany veneers on the exterior panels. Construction involved dovetail joinery for the internal compartments, hand-turned pedestal supports, and brass fittings for locks and hinges.

Authentic Victorian examples display hand-cut dovetail joints inside the interior tray dividers, original brass lock mechanisms, and characteristic mid-to-late 19th-century carved details like cabriole legs or turned columns. Genuine age marks, original veneer application, and evidence of hand-carved decorative elements distinguish them from modern reproductions.

These compact functional pieces work well as occasional accent tables, bedside stands, or hall side tables in modern interiors. Opening the lid allows the piece to double as an open display storage unit for small items or stationary, blending historical craft with modern utility.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the timber from warping or the veneer from lifting. Clean surface dust using a soft microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically following the grain to preserve the wood finish.
