Victorian Serpentine Fronted Hand Dyed Restored Brown Leather Chesterfield Sofa

19th century
Description

Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this stunning fully restored Victorian hand dyed cigar brown leather serpentine fronted Chesterfield club sofa with super rare high back and hand turned walnut legs

Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote, please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price.

This sofa is as rare as they come, it’s a period original Victorian which is rare in itself however being a serpentine curved front model it is as rare as hens’ teeth, I’ve seen maybe two of these in all my years. It also has the higher Regency style back which again is not something you come across every day, the frame is in Walnut and the oversized turned legs are finished with period castors

It is Horsehair padded, the seat platform is coil sprung, the leather has been fully restored to include a wash back, its then been hand dyed six times, then sealed waxed down and polished, it is better looking now than it has ever been and serve with new family well

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Chesterfield sofa is a classic British seating design characterised by deep buttoned leather upholstery, rolled arms of equal height to the back, and studded trim, originating in the eighteenth century.

Victorian leather sofas typically feature solid hardwood frames, hand-tied steel coil springs, natural hair stuffing, and full-grain bovine leather secured with individual brass upholstery tacks.

Authentic Victorian examples feature solid wooden frames with hand-turned legs or brass castors, deep hand-tufted buttoning extending across the back and seat, and original horsehair or fibre filling.

Balance the visual weight and deep tones of the leather sofa with neutral wall colours, contemporary wool throws, minimalistic lighting, and natural wood or brass accents.

Maintain antique leather by dusting regularly with a soft cloth, keeping the hide away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and applying a specialised leather conditioner periodically.
