Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Provincial furniture refers to pieces crafted in regional French towns during the 18th century, adapting simplified Parisian court styles like Louis XV for practical domestic use in local woods.

Regional craftsmen primarily utilised native hardwoods such as walnut, oak, and fruitwood, joined with hand-cut dovetails, mortise-and-tenon joints, and fitted with cast brass or bronze escutcheons.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand-planed timber, irregular dovetail joints, original brass hardware with historical oxidisation, and timber wear consistent with long-term use.

A provincial commode functions well as a focal storage piece in an entryway, living room, or bedroom, contrasting structured timber forms against clean contemporary walls.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish annually, while avoiding direct heat sources and excessive moisture exposure.
