Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The longcase clock, commonly known as a grandfather clock, originated in the mid-17th century following the invention of the anchor escapement, which allowed for longer pendulums requiring tall, protective wooden enclosures.

Cases were typically crafted from hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, while internal movements were manufactured from brass and steel with cast or sheet brass dials.

Authentic pieces feature weight-driven mechanical movements, hand-engraved or spandrel-decorated brass dials, hand-cut joinery in the case construction, and maker inscriptions on the dial or movement plate.

Place the timepiece as a structural focal point in an entryway, hallway, or study, offsetting the rich timber tones against neutral background palettes and simple architectural lines.

Position the case on a perfectly level floor, wind the weights at consistent intervals, dust the timber cabinet with a dry cloth, and have the internal clockwork professionally cleaned and lubricated every three to five years.
