Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century French bronze sculptures are renowned for their fine casting techniques, intricate cold-chasing, and sophisticated patination. Often created using the lost-wax or sand-casting method, these pieces frequently feature allegorical, classical, or genre subjects mounted on gilded bronze or marble bases.

These sculptures are primarily cast from a bronze copper alloy, often treated with dark chemical patinas. The elaborate bases combine fire-gilded bronze, also known as ormolu, with turned white or coloured marble plinths.

Authentic pieces display crisp detail in the hair, drapery, and facial features achieved through hand-chiselling after casting. Look for foundry marks, artist signatures, threaded iron rods inside the base construction, and natural, gentle wear on the original gilding and patina.

Positioning a symmetrical pair on a fireplace mantelpiece or a contemporary sideboard creates visual balance. The rich dark bronze and gilded highlights contrast effectively against clean, neutral walls or minimalist cabinetry.

Regular dusting with a soft, dry camel-hair brush prevents dirt accumulation in fine crevices. To protect the patina and gilded mounts, apply a thin layer of microcrystalline wax occasionally and avoid moisture, brass polishes, or chemical cleansers.
