Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early Victorian furniture, dating from approximately 1837 to 1860, is defined by dark timbers such as walnut and mahogany, turned or heavily carved legs, and softly rounded corners that diverged from earlier rigid Regency forms.

Victorian desks were crafted using solid hardwoods including walnut, oak, and mahogany, often featuring decorative burr walnut veneers, inset leather writing surfaces, and hand-dovetailed drawer construction.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, original brass or turned wood handles, period locks, and natural surface patination accumulated over time.

Position the desk as a dedicated work surface in a home study or place it against a neutral accent wall, pairing it with contemporary lighting to balance traditional and modern aesthetics.

Regularly dust with a clean lint-free cloth, apply natural beeswax polish along the grain twice yearly, avoid placement near direct heat sources, and treat leather surfaces with specialized leather balm.
