Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French toleware gueridon cake stand or dumb waiter dates from 1960 and exemplifies the French Chateau style. The piece comprises a cream-finished metal and toleware structure with three circular glass shelves, supported by a central column detailed with botanical leaf motifs, pineapples, a fluted column base, and an oval ring handle at the top. The stand measures 86 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, providing practical display space. In a modern interior, this stand serves as a decorative accessory for a sideboard top or as a serving piece for afternoon tea and small pastries in a dining room or kitchen.

FAQs

Toleware refers to decorative items crafted from painted, lacquered, or enamelled sheet metal, a technique developed across Europe during the eighteenth century.

Traditional tiered stands combine rolled iron or tin metalwork with glass or wooden circular surfaces, often finished with painted enamelling and hand-formed cast ornaments.

Authentic period pieces display paint wear around handles and bases, hand-soldered joins, solid sheet metal weight, and natural surface patination beneath the painted layer.

Position the piece on a sideboard or dining table as a central feature to display fruit, patisserie, or botanical arrangements.

Clean surfaces gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water immersion or abrasive chemical cleansers that may compromise the lacquered paintwork.
