What is a partners desk?

A partners desk is a large pedestal desk designed with drawers and cupboards on both sides so two people can work facing each other. These pieces were traditionally placed in the centre of a room rather than against a wall, making them accessible from all angles.

How do I identify a Victorian desk?

Victorian desks typically display heavy proportions, rich mahogany or walnut timbers, and often incorporate inset leather writing surfaces. Look for traditional construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails in the drawer boxes and the use of brass hardware.

Where should I place a freestanding desk?

A freestanding pedestal desk or partners desk looks best positioned in the middle of a study or office. Because the rear of the desk is finished to the same standard as the front, it creates a strong visual focal point away from the walls.

What is a roll top desk used for?

A roll top desk provides a private workspace where paperwork and writing materials can be secured simply by pulling down the slatted wooden tambour. The internal compartments keep stationery organised without requiring separate desktop storage boxes.
