What is a quartetto table set?

A quartetto set consists of four graduating tables designed to slide neatly beneath one another when not in use. They became particularly popular during the Edwardian era for serving tea. Cabinet makers constructed these sets from timbers such as mahogany and walnut, allowing homeowners to maximise living space without sacrificing surface area.

How do I care for vintage wooden tables?

Maintain wooden surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding placement near direct heat sources or strong sunlight. These precautions prevent the timber from drying out or splitting. Apply occasional appropriate wax polish to nourish the grain and protect the original finish without creating a heavy buildup.

Are dining suites and nests from the same era?

Dining suites and nesting tables span multiple decades, ranging from Victorian and Edwardian craftsmanship to Art Deco designs from the nineteen-thirties. Each period utilises specific structural proportions and decorative veneers. Reviewing the listed materials and construction styles helps identify the specific decade in which a particular set was produced.

How can I tell Edwardian tables apart from Art Deco ones?

Edwardian tables frequently feature mahogany or satinwood with delicate string inlay, tapered legs, and occasional carved motifs reflecting earlier revival styles. They often prioritise traditional joinery and ornamental detail. Art Deco sets lean towards clean geometric lines, bold bird's eye maple or burr walnut veneers, and unadorned surfaces that highlight the natural grain of the timber.
