What is a vintage vanity table bottle?

A vintage vanity table bottle is a decorative glass or crystal container used on a dressing table to hold perfume or cologne. These vessels often feature fitted metal collars and stoppers. Such items were essential accessories for personal grooming tables throughout the Victorian, Edwardian, and Art Deco periods.

How do I date a silver mounted scent bottle?

You can date a silver mounted scent bottle by examining the hallmarks stamped onto the metal collar or lid. These tiny official marks reveal the exact assay office and year of manufacture. Stylistic clues like geometric Art Deco enamel or heavy Victorian cutting also help narrow down the production era.

Are original glass stoppers important?

Original glass stoppers are significant because they were custom-ground to fit each specific bottle neck during manufacture. Finding a piece with its matching stopper preserves its original design integrity. Many surviving examples retain their correct components, which adds to their appeal for collectors.

How should I display these bottles?

You can display these bottles on mirrored trays or dressing table surfaces where they catch the ambient light. Grouping them by period or colour creates an engaging visual arrangement. Keep them away from direct sunlight to protect coloured glass and delicate enamel finishes over time.
