How do I use an antique terracotta jar at home?

Antique terracotta and oil jars function effectively as decorative floor standing accents or garden containers. Their natural earthenware surfaces bring texture to interior spaces. Larger jars suit entryways or corners, while smaller examples display well on side tables. Placing a protective saucer inside prevents moisture transfer to flooring.

Are bedside cabinets from the Victorian era durable?

Victorian bedside cabinets were built using solid hardwoods like mahogany, oak, and walnut, ensuring robust structural integrity. Traditional joinery methods allow these pieces to withstand daily use. Regular waxing maintains the timber surface and protects the polish. Their sturdy construction explains why many survive in active service today.

They typically display two lug handles near the rim. English storage jars of the same period tend to use stoneware or heavier earthenware with salt-glaze finishes. The potting techniques and clay colours reflect distinct regional European traditions.
