What periods do these lamps come from?

The lighting options span from the nineteenth century through the Edwardian era and into the nineteen-twenties and nineteen-thirties. Art Deco and Machine Age styles dominate the later decades, while earlier pieces reflect Victorian and Edwardian brass manufacturing.

How do I identify a genuine period desk lamp?

Examine the materials, weight and construction methods used in the base and shade. Authentic pieces typically feature heavy cast brass, thick spun metal or period Bakelite components. Look for honest patina and construction details consistent with nineteenth or early twentieth-century manufacturing techniques.

Are these lamps suitable for modern desks?

These task lamps provide directional illumination that functions well on contemporary work surfaces. Their adjustable arms and focused beams make them practical for reading and writing. Most models require standard modern bulbs while retaining their historical mechanical adjustments.

What materials were used for the shades?

Shades were manufactured from spun copper, brass, moulded glass and early plastics such as Bakelite. Metal shades directed light downward onto the writing surface. Glass options often provided a softer diffused glow across the desk area.
