What is a flush mount light?

A flush mount light is a fixture that attaches directly to the ceiling without any hanging stem or chain. This design places the light source tight against the plaster, making it suitable for rooms with lower ceilings. The selection here includes Art Deco pressed glass bowls and crystal plafonieres that distribute light evenly while keeping a low profile.

How do I date a glass plafonier?

Dating a glass plafonier involves examining the style of the metal mount and the manufacturing technique of the glass. Art Deco pieces from the 1930s often feature geometric frosted glass or moulded signatures. Earlier Victorian and Edwardian examples lean towards heavy cast brass frames holding hand-cut crystal prisms or beaded drops.

Where should I place these pieces?

Flush mount ceiling lights work well in hallways, kitchens, or rooms with restricted vertical clearance where a hanging chandelier would hang too low. Wall-mounted half lanterns suit entrances and narrow corridors. Campaign desks and chests function effectively as study furniture or bedroom storage, offering compact drawers and durable timber surfaces.
