How do I wear a vintage flower brooch?

Pin the piece firmly to a structured lapel, coat collar or scarf, ensuring the weight of the metal and stones is supported by thick fabric. Position the bloom so the stem or orientation aligns naturally with the drape of your garment.

How can I tell the period of a flower brooch?

Examine the metal alloys, stone cuts and fastening mechanisms, as these details shift noticeably between Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco and Mid-Century eras. Stylistic markers such as flowing Art Nouveau lines or geometric mid-century atomic shapes also point directly to specific decades.

Were these brooches used as pendants too?

Many floral brooches incorporate hidden loops or swing bails behind the pin stem, allowing them to be suspended from a chain. Inspect the reverse of the piece to identify dual-purpose fittings designed for both pinning and hanging.

How do I care for enamel and pearls?

Store enamel pieces away from direct sunlight and hard objects to prevent scratching the vulnerable glass surfaces. Clean pearls and enamel gently with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips or ultrasonic cleaners.
