What are vintage bedside lockers?

Vintage bedside lockers are small antique cabinets, chests, and tables designed to stand next to a bed. They provide enclosed storage space behind doors or open surfaces for bedside items. Items in this category range from Victorian mahogany chests to nineteen-thirty Art Deco tables and Edwardian cabinets.

How were bedside lockers used?

These pieces served to hold personal items, books, and night-time necessities within arm's reach of the bed. Their compact footprints made them practical additions to period bedrooms of varying sizes. Enclosed cupboards and small drawers kept private items neatly out of sight.

Are these lockers sold as pairs?

Many listings feature matching pairs of bedside cabinets and tables, particularly from the Art Deco and Victorian periods. Pairs are especially sought after for placing on both sides of a double bed. Single cabinets also appear, offering individual character for smaller rooms.

What materials are used?

Cabinet makers built these lockers using solid hardwoods including mahogany, walnut, oak, and rosewood. Wood veneer was frequently applied to enhance the visual grain on flat surfaces. Brass details often provide functional hardware and decorative contrast to the dark timber.
