What is Venetian style glass?

Venetian style glass encompasses decorative mirrors, vases, and chandeliers originating from Italy or produced in the characteristic ornate manner of Venice. These pieces often highlight intricate engraving, coloured glass, and elaborate mirrored frames spanning the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

How do I date a Venetian mirror?

Dating relies on examining the construction of the wooden frame, the bevel or cut of the glass plate, and assembly methods. Nineteenth-century examples often display heavy hand-carved giltwood frames, whilst later pieces reflect Art Deco geometric styling.

Where should I hang a Venetian mirror?

These mirrors suit prominent positions such as above a fireplace mantelpiece or in a hallway where they can catch natural light. Their reflective border plates and ornate glasswork create a strong focal point in traditional and contemporary interior schemes.

How do I clean antique glass?

Clean antique glass gently using a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaning solution applied directly to the cloth rather than the piece. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that might damage delicate engravings, painted surfaces, or silvered mirror backs.
