What periods do these paper artworks come from?

The listings span from the nineteenth century and the Victorian era through Edwardian times and the Art Deco period into the mid-twentieth century. Most pieces date from the early nineteen-hundreds to the nineteen-thirties, reflecting British Impressionist and continental landscape traditions.

How should I frame and display works on paper?

Watercolours and drawings on paper require mounting behind glass to protect the delicate pigments from dust, atmospheric pollutants and physical damage. Keep them away from direct sunlight to prevent the watercolour pigments and ink lines from fading over time.

Where were these landscape scenes created?

The views include British locations such as Whitby, London, Staithes and Staffordshire, alongside continental European destinations like Venice, Pompeii, San Remo and the South of France. Artists often travelled to paint picturesque harbours, ancient ruins and rural countryside scenes directly from life.

What is the difference between watercolour and gouache?

Standard watercolour relies on transparent washes that allow the white of the paper to shine through the pigment layers. Gouache incorporates opaque elements that provide solid coverage and heavier texture within the same paper surface.
