Are these trunks sturdy enough to use as coffee tables?

These chests were originally built to endure harsh travel conditions by land and sea, utilising thick timbers, iron bracing, and dovetail joints. This heavy-duty construction makes them exceptionally robust for daily domestic use as coffee tables. The solid tops readily support books, trays, and daily objects, while the internal cavity remains accessible for storing everyday items like cushions and throws.

How do I care for a waxed pine trunk?

Waxed pine benefits from occasional applications of natural beeswax to nourish the wood and maintain a soft, protective sheen against everyday spills and dust. Avoid placing the trunk near direct heat sources to prevent the timber from splitting. A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for routine cleaning, preserving the patina accumulated over decades of use.

What is the difference between a campaign chest and a blanket box?

Campaign chests feature specialised hardware such as recessed brass handles and reinforced corners designed for military transport and frequent dismantling. They often incorporate internal drawers and compartments tailored for an officer's personal effects. Blanket boxes are typically simpler domestic containers made of pine or oak, designed to rest in a fixed position at the foot of a bed or within a hallway for storing textiles.

Will camphor wood trunks smell strongly indoors?

Camphor wood naturally emits a clean, medicinal aroma that acts as a traditional deterrent against moths and insects. In a closed room, this scent remains gentle and generally fades over time while keeping stored items fresh. Opening the chest periodically allows the timber to breathe without overwhelming a modern living space.
