What periods do these landscapes cover?

The selection spans from the 19th century through the Edwardian period into the mid-20th century. Works reflect changing artistic movements such as British Realism and Impressionism across these decades. Dates and styles are often recorded directly on the piece or within the signature details provided by the maker.

How do I identify the artist's signature?

Signatures typically appear in the lower corners of the canvas, paper or wood panel, rendered in paint, ink or pencil. Some artists utilised monograms rather than full names to authenticate their work. Comparing the handwriting style with documented examples from the same period helps confirm the creator's identity.

What materials were commonly used?

Artists utilised oil paint on canvas and wood panels alongside watercolour and pastel on paper. These materials were often housed within original gilt or wood frames. The choice of medium frequently aligns with the period and the specific regional school of the landscape.

How should I display framed artwork?

Framed watercolours and oil paintings require placement away from direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading and paper degradation. Stable indoor humidity levels protect both the wooden frames and the canvas supports. Ensuring secure wall fixings supports the weight of antique frames safely.
