What is a wire door cabinet?

A wire door cabinet is a storage piece fitted with woven metal mesh panels in the doors instead of solid wood or plain glass. These grilles protect the contents while keeping them visible. They appear in forms ranging from low sideboards to tall library bookcases built in mahogany and rosewood.

How do I style a cabinet with wire doors?

These cabinets work effectively in dining rooms or libraries to store books, ceramics and glassware. The wire mesh adds texture and softens the heavy timber presence. Lining the interior with fabric or keeping the shelves neatly arranged maintains a balanced look through the open weave.

Are these cabinets all from the Regency period?

The selection includes pieces from the Regency and William IV eras alongside later 19th century and early 20th century examples. Stylistic details reflect both strict neoclassical design and later Victorian interpretations. Woods range from dark mahogany and rosewood to walnut and satinwood depending on the exact decade of manufacture.

What is a chiffonier?

A chiffonier is a compact sideboard style cabinet equipped with enclosed lower cupboards. Regency versions often include brass mounts and wire door panels. They were designed for practical storage in entertaining spaces without dominating the room.
