How do I assemble a knockdown wardrobe?

Knockdown wardrobes dismantle into separate panels, cornices, bases, and doors for transport. Assembly typically involves slotting the side panels into the base and securing them with internal wooden pegs or metal brackets. Having an extra pair of hands helps align the heavy pine sections before dropping the top cornice into place to lock the frame.

Can I paint a waxed pine armoire?

Many pine pieces arrive ready to wax or paint, allowing you to adapt the finish to your interior. You must remove existing wax layers thoroughly with fine wire wool and spirit solvent before applying primer. Skipping this cleaning step prevents modern paint from adhering properly to the softwood surface.

What is the difference between an armoire and a linen press?

An armoire is primarily designed with vertical hanging space for full-length garments behind tall doors. A linen press traditionally houses horizontal sliding trays or fixed shelves in the upper section for folded fabrics. Both forms often incorporate banks of drawers in the lower half for extra storage capacity.

How do I care for scumble painted furniture?

Scumble paint is a delicate decorative glaze that mimics finer wood grain and requires gentle cleaning. Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical sprays or abrasive pads. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources to prevent the historic paint layer from cracking or flaking.
