What is a liquor bottle set?

A liquor bottle set comprises multiple matched decanters or spirit flasks displayed together in a frame, stand, or locking box. These assemblies served domestic hospitality in dining rooms and studies throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

How do you use a tantalus?

A tantalus secures glass decanters beneath a metal bar that locks into place with a key, preventing unauthorized pours. Unlocking the mechanism allows the bottles to be lifted from the oak or mahogany frame for serving.

How are periods told apart?

Georgian sets often feature deep cobalt Bristol blue glass or simple silver labels, while Victorian and Edwardian examples utilise heavy cut crystal and elaborate silver-plated frames. Art Deco sets from the 1930s introduce streamlined geometric glass forms accompanied by matching drinking glasses.

How do you clean antique decanters?

Antique glass requires gentle hand washing with warm water and soft bottle brushes to preserve the delicate interior surfaces and cut facets. Harsh detergents and sudden temperature changes should be avoided to protect aged crystal and applied gold decorations.
