How do I hang a hall fixture safely?

Suspension requires fixing the main weight directly to a ceiling joist using a suitable metal hook or bracket. Wiring must connect securely to the domestic supply via the ceiling rose. Professional installation is recommended due to the heavy weight of bronze, brass, and glass components. Ensure the hanging chain matches the proportional height of the entranceway.

What periods do these lanterns date from?

The available pieces span the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including Victorian, Edwardian, and 1930s examples. Stylistic markers often link them to specific decades. Victorian and Gothic Revival pieces show heavier ironwork, while 1920s and 1930s French designs favour gilded bronze and convex glass.

Can these fixtures be wired for modern electricity?

Most antique fixtures arrive already electrified for modern domestic use. Internal lamp holders accommodate standard bulbs safely. Rewiring older metal frames ensures compliance with current electrical safety standards without altering the external appearance.

How do I clean antique glass and brass?

Dust glass panels gently with a dry microfiber cloth to remove surface particles. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip historical finishes. Unlacquered brass and bronze develop a natural patina over time. Gentle dusting preserves this surface layer without removing the aged character.
