What is an immortal figure?

An immortal figure depicts Daoist or Buddhist sages, deities, and enlightened beings from East Asian folklore. These figures symbolise longevity, wisdom, and spiritual attainment. Craftsmen rendered them with distinct attributes such as staffs, gourds, or mythical creatures to aid identification by historical viewers.

How were root wood lamps made?

Root wood lamps began life as figurative carvings depicting scholars, deities, or sages shaped from gnarled timber roots. Artisans later adapted these sculptures for electrical illumination. This conversion usually involved running a cord through the natural channels of the wood without destroying the integrity of the original carving.

Where should I place these sculptures?

These sculptures suit placement on low tables, desks, or dedicated display surfaces where their three-dimensional form can be appreciated from multiple angles. Root wood and stone pieces benefit from indirect natural light that highlights their varied textures. Keep them away from direct heat sources to prevent timber splitting or stone desiccation.
