Can these artworks hang in direct sunlight?

Direct sunlight causes pigments to fade significantly over time, particularly historical pastels that lack modern chemical stabilisers. Positioning these pieces on interior walls away from harsh windows preserves the original colour intensity and prevents the paper support from yellowing.

What periods do these pieces represent?

The selections span from the Georgian and Victorian eras through Edwardian times and into mid-century modern movements. Earlier pieces often feature formal portraiture, while later 20th-century examples showcase looser landscape and figurative techniques.

How do I identify the framing materials?

Giltwood frames feature carved wooden bases beneath gold leaf or metal application, often showing subtle grain and age-related wear. Modern substitutes typically utilise composition materials or extruded mouldings with a uniform metallic coating lacking traditional depth.
