How do I mount French gilt bronze sconces?

These wall lights attach securely to wall studs or masonry using appropriate fixings suited to the weight of the metal structure. Professional installation ensures the fixture hangs level and meets electrical safety standards if wired for power. Heavier pairs require robust wall anchors to support the substantial weight of the cast bronze and any added crystal elements safely over time.

What periods do these wall lights come from?

The available pieces originate from the nineteenth century, nineteen hundred, nineteen twenty, and nineteen thirty. These dates reflect both antique production and early twentieth-century revival pieces. Stylistic cues such as Rococo curves and Neoclassical symmetry help place each piece within its historical manufacturing period.

How do I clean gilt bronze?

Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry cloth to prevent the accumulation of dirt within the chased crevices of the metal. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that can strip away the delicate gold finish. Preserving the original surface patina maintains the historical character and visual appeal of the antique metalwork.

Were these sconces made for candles or electricity?

Historical examples were originally manufactured to hold wax candles before many were subsequently adapted for electrical wiring during the twentieth century. Examining the nozzle interiors often reveals whether the fitting housed a candle drip pan or an electrical bulb holder. Both candle-configured and electrified pairs appear across different periods within the available selection.
