What periods do these pieces date from?

The selection spans from the Georgian era through the Victorian period and into the early 20th century. You will find items representing Edwardian, Arts and Crafts, and French Louis XV styles. Victorian and late 19th-century examples dominate the available timber choices, particularly in mahogany and walnut. Each era brings distinct proportions and handle designs to the four-drawer format.

Are pairs commonly available?

Many listings feature matching pairs of bedside chests or lockers, which suits symmetrical bedroom arrangements. These pairs often share identical timber grain patterns and hardware. Single pieces also appear frequently, including narrow chests and trinket storage units. Sourcing a matched pair requires looking closely at the listed dimensions and wood types.

How do I identify a four drawer bedside?

These units measure taller than standard bedside tables to accommodate four separate tiers of drawers within a compact width. They often take the form of miniature chests, lockers, or bedside cabinets. Authors and makers historically classified them under various titles including bedside chests, lockers, and small chests of drawers. The shared characteristic is the vertical bank of four drawers beside a bed.

What timber types should I expect?

Mahogany and walnut are the most prevalent timbers, frequently enhanced with burr walnut or figured veneers. Other materials include ash, pine, teak, and rosewood. Selected pieces incorporate marble tops, brass handles, or wood inlay. The choice of wood generally reflects the period and region of manufacture.
