What is an X-frame chair?

An X-frame chair utilises intersecting legs that cross beneath the seat to form a stable structural base. This ancient form appears in various revival styles. These seats often feature folding mechanisms or sturdy fixed frames designed for functional use or ceremonial display.

Where were these chairs placed?

These chairs served multiple functions in studies, halls, and reception rooms as desk chairs, elbow chairs, or occasional seating. Their robust construction suited daily utility. Smaller variations such as slipper chairs and folding seats were adapted for bedrooms and campaign use.

How do I care for oak furniture?

Solid oak requires stable environmental conditions away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement. Regular dusting maintains the finish. Leather and fabric upholstery elements need appropriate specialist cleaning depending on their textile composition.
