What periods do these paintings come from?

The available pieces span several centuries, including seventeenth-century Dutch styles, eighteenth-century compositions, and nineteenth-century Victorian works. Twentieth-century examples from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1950s also appear frequently. This broad chronological range reflects the enduring popularity of botanical still life painting across different European artistic movements.

What materials were used?

Most works consist of oil paint applied directly to stretched canvas. Some pieces utilise wood panels or incorporate painted wooden panels. Frames often feature traditional materials such as gesso, gilded wood, and gold leaf to enhance the visual weight of the paintings.

How should I hang these?

These atmospheric paintings work well against dark or neutral wall colours that echo the shadowed backgrounds of the canvases. Pairing them with traditional wooden or gilded frames creates a strong focal point in a room. Keep them away from direct sunlight to protect the oil paint and canvas over time.

What styles are represented?

The selection includes Flemish Baroque, Dutch Golden Age, and 18th Century Dutch styles characterised by deep shadows and luminous floral displays. You will also find British Impressionism, Post-Impressionist, and Victorian approaches. This variety shows how artists across different eras interpreted the humble flower arrangement.
