How do I hang a heavy brass chandelier?

Heavy cast metal chandeliers require secure anchorage into ceiling joists using rated structural fixings. Professional installation ensures the weight of the metal arms and crystal elements is safely supported. Electrical wiring must also match the voltage requirements and weight capacity of the chosen suspension rod or chain.

What rooms suit a brass hanging light arm?

Wall-mounted brackets suit hallways, studies, and dining spaces where direct lateral illumination is required. They project light outward to highlight surrounding wall surfaces. Ceiling-hung variants work best centred over tables or in open rooms with adequate clearance beneath the lowest crystal drop.

How do I clean antique brass and crystal?

Dust metal surfaces gently with a soft dry cloth to preserve the original patina and gilt finishes. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip the historic surface layers. Crystal lustres can be removed and washed in warm soapy water, then dried thoroughly before reattachment to the frame.

How do I tell Victorian lighting from Edwardian lighting?

Victorian pieces often display heavier cast decoration, darker bronzed finishes, and elaborate revival styles such as French rococo or baroque. They prioritize ornate metalwork and abundant crystal drops. Edwardian lighting tends toward lighter proportions, cleaner lines, and simpler Arts and Crafts or neoclassical influences that suit more restrained interiors.
