How do I date a blue tabriz rug?

Dating relies on stylistic markers, structural materials, and structural characteristics recorded in the weaving traditions of north-west Persia. Nineteenth-century examples often display distinct natural dye palettes and finer urban knotting compared to later twentieth-century productions. Examining the wear patterns, wool quality, and border designs helps establish whether a piece originates from the Safavid Zand era, the nineteenth century, or the early twentieth century.

Where were these carpets made?

These textiles originate from Tabriz, a prominent city in north-west Persia with a centuries-old tradition of master carpet weaving. Urban workshops in this region combined traditional Persian motifs with exceptional technical precision. Some pieces reflect regional village aesthetics from the surrounding area, introducing alternative overall patterns while maintaining the foundational techniques of the Tabriz tradition.

How should I live with a wool carpet?

Wool and cotton construction provides natural durability that suits high-traffic areas in a home. Regular gentle vacuuming without a rotating brush roll helps maintain the pile and prevents dust from settling into the foundation. Positioning the rug away from direct, harsh sunlight preserves the depth of the indigo and blue tones over time. Rotating the piece periodically ensures even wear across the surface.
